My Reflections

In my opinion, using of Information and Communication Technology or ICT is really interesting. We can get various information from ICT in different ways. It is really useful in our daily life as a students. As we know, ICT have its own advantages and disadvantages. We have to create our own ways to make it easier in our life. People use ICT in their daily life for their convenience, facilities, for fast moving, to compete with others and it is the easiest way to find any information. In addition, when using ICT people will get better understanding in learning process and also high performance during presentation.

Based on what I have learned, the model of engage, empower and enhance is very helpful in learning and teaching process. It is easy for teachers to teach in a correct way and orderly in its information. This model will be more interactive if the teachers can explain well to their students.  For me, the key to make this useful model to become more effective is using the words or sentences or any information provided in a simple way but make sure it is concise. The title must be catchy so that it can be more interesting for student to learn it. From the engage, teachers should be able to elicit student idea based on the picture or texts given. The information must be something that is related or common in our life so that students will have an ability to relate this engage with their previous knowledge. Some questions are given to elicit student ideas. Empower provided student with an experiment so that they can practise on what they have learned. The clearly instructions is needed to help students doing the experiment. In enhance, teachers can give an example of the real situation that is related to the topic. A real example or situation help students to think actively on why this phenomenon occurs. In enhance, it is important for teachers to know how much students have understood on the topic. When using this model, the difficulty faced by some students is they don’t understand what are the clues given especially in engage. They don’t know how to relate it in their life. The same problem goes to the teachers when they are not able to understand what the objectives or purpose of using this model in teaching process. They just directly explain the facts without elicit students idea first.

In this ICT subject, we have been introduced and exposed by the lecturer in the using of data logging in teaching process. In my own opinion, data logger is a device that helps students or teachers easy to get any data from an experiment. Data logger is suitable to be used in school. By using the data logger, all experiment can be done in a short time. It only requires a little work but need an explanation from the teachers. 

Data logger can immediately interpret data during the experiment. It is a real time operation. Students can immediately see the changes occur during the time. 

Student can manage to see the small changes of temperature up to 0.01 degree Celsius. On the same time student would be able to record the results in every second. So, it is more accurate than using thermometer. The special about the data logger is it can be linked to four sensors in the same time. The common problem that faced by students is they cannot understand on certain experiment that require student to plot graph. They don’t know how to read the graph and plot in properly. Teachers can communicate with students and explain the changes occur during plotting of graph by data logger. This will be easier for students to understand the graph immediately.

Simulation and modelling is another alternative way use in teaching and learning process. The example of simulation that can be used is the process of mitosis. Process that involved is something that cannot be seen through the naked eyes. This simulation really helps students to understand better how the movement of cell occur in our body. This simulation can be stopped anytime so that it helps teachers to explain one by one about the process and how it happens. The graphic from the simulation or modelling also important to make it interesting in learning process. Some of the problems when using simulation or modelling is teachers cannot access internet well in class so it can be problem for teachers to explain without any tool kit.

As we know, using of ICT is very important. To solve any problems regarding to ICT, teachers should know what is actually the purpose and importance of ICT in teaching and learning process. They must up-to-date to what happen surround them. Teachers can attend any course that helps them to improve their knowledge in ICT. They should be able to use ICT in school or everywhere. School must provide facilities on ICT such as internet to students and teachers so everything will more easier for them. In laboratory, every component of ICT has to be completed. The using of data logger and so on should be practise in certain experiment so that students can familiarize their self with the gadget. Teachers should have commitment to help students to understand better. They should prepare themselves with any type of tool kit in teaching process.
